List any new skills that you have learnt from completing this unit of work. How do you think these skills will will help you in the future?
One of the skills I have learnt from the Silver Donkey is to not judge a book by its cover. I learned this when Coco and Marcelle came across a man who looked like he was dead, but was really sleeping. They soon decided to meet the man and he turned out to be a kind, caring person. This will definitely help me in the future in many ways, for example, if I come across a mean looking girl, but she is actually really kind.
Another skill I have learnt is about evaluating. When we were evaluating things about The Silver Donkey it taught me to look more deeply into the book and look underneath the text. This will help me if I have to evaluate something else in the future.

The Silver Donkey task 2
Outline your opinion of the strengths and weaknesses of the novel. Give reasons and examples to justify your answer.
I think that the strengths in the Silver Donkey are the stories that the Lieutenant told the children. They teach valuable, enjoyable lessons that people can remember and pass on to others. All of the storeys show the good and sweet-natured characteristics of the donkey. "From that day on there was always a donkey at Jack's side. The man and the animal worked together as a team."(P.133)
The weakness in the novel is the mystery in the story, e.g - Is John real? Does he make it home? Is he really blind? Some people might like this idea in novels but I don't as I like the facts of what happened and how it ends.

The Silver Doney Task 1
Write a paragraph summary of the story "The Silver Donkey"
The Silver Donkey is an inspiring tale of a man who fought in war but has left AWOL. His name is Lieutenant Shepard, he is going blind, he wants to go home to his sick brother John and he is lying in a forest wondering what to do.
Luckily, two girls, Coco and Marcelle, soon joined by their brother Parcel, discover him and help him on his way to get home.
Whilst with the children, Lieutenant Shepard tells them story's about the noble donkey.
This is a heart warming, inspiring story which I I would recommend to everyone!
